Acknowledgements

[vc_accordion active_tab=”false” collapsible=”yes”][vc_accordion_tab title=”John Patterson”]George Bailey, in the 1947 movie, “It’s A Wonderful Life”, had the opportunity to see what the world would have been like if he had not been in it. He discovered that seemingly everyone had entirely different lives because of him. In the same vain, I would imagine a very different life were it not for the contributions of all those I know and don’t know who create the social-cultural fabric I am privileged to live in.

The list of specific contributors are extensive and includes my family, my spouse, my friends and over 40,000 people who contributed to my learning every time I stepped on stage to lead a program.

A few individuals must be mentioned:

Childhood: My Father, William Thomas Patterson who taught me gentle power and humble leadership.

Young Adult: My Italian Professor, Paulo Barucchieri who taught me the potency of environment and ‘place’. Environmental Design initially exposed me to the evolving interplay between people, what we build and why, forging an intellectual pathway to our curriculum’s foundational philosophy.

Professional: My Manager, Tirzah Cohen who had the patience to yell at me everyday for three years until I absolutely embodied the management competencies required to oversee an expanding multi-million dollar enterprise.

Historical figures are many (in no order)

• E. O. Wilson, starting with a fascination of ants, the workings of things small gave understanding to things large; most of all ourselves as organisms of the world.
• Steve Jobs, insanely simply and a little insane
• Elon Musk, free energy is not free

I am deeply and forever grateful for the seemingly divinely inspired re-connection with Kirkland Tibbels almost 20 years after our meeting.
